Baseball players unloading wreaths to lay on the graves of veterans

Last week, the Baseball team volunteered to unload wreaths as part of the Wreaths Across America ceremony. The event took place last Saturday at 11 a.m.

”Wreaths Across America Ceremony is about remembering veterans that fought for our freedoms, and basically what we do is make sure that all of them get a Christmas wreath on their tombstone,” head coach Lee Yeager said.

Wreaths Across America is a yearly wreath ceremony done at the Costal Bend Veterans Cemetery. The ceremony is done to commemorate veterans who were both lost during and after action. Participants laid Christmas wreaths on the graves of these Veterans. Volunteers and family of the vets were able to participate.

”We’re Veterans Memorial and so a lot of the community service that we do is for the veterans because of what our school is,” Yeager said. “We do it every year and it’s one of our best community service opportunities and it feels really good to do things that help others.”

The baseball team along with organizations from other CCISD schools such as King, and Ray participated, along with students from the district, cub scouts, retired soldiers, and more.

”It was a good feeling knowing you’re able to help people and honor people that served the country and helped you,” baseball player Ryan Ashurst said.
