This year marks a first for the Lady Eagle Gold team, as the 2021-2022 is now officially the first team in school history to make it to the UIL State Golf Tournament.

“I think it’s a good feeling, we’ve all been friends since middle school so it’s fun that we were able to accomplish so much in just our second year together,” player Viviana Farias said.

Through extensive practicing and preparation, the team was able to achieve a total score of 696. As well as other awards such as. Anissa Farias’ award for MVP for the district to years in a row, as well as the title that Kieli Saenz , Viviana Farias, Samantha Buemio and Cassandra Buemio earned for First Team All – district.

“We practiced a lot, we practiced in the morning as a team and after school we’re all there together just working on the little stuff that we need to perfect in order to get to the level we’re at,” Farias said.

In addition to their hard work and practicing, Farias said that even though they practiced hard and perfected their strategies, the team didn’t apply anything new to their strategies and played it like a normal tournament.

“I just went out and played my game, I knew that if I just played myself I’d be playing good so we all just went out and played ourselves,” Farias said.

With this win now under their belt, the golf team is using this years win as a learning experience, and hopes to improve and use this win to help them better their performances for later seasons.

“I think this is pushing us to get better and to get us to make it to state next year and place higher as well as place higher at regionals next year,” Farias said.
