VMHS Swimmers are State Bound

Members of the VMHS Swim Team are Victorious

On February 1, 2020 the VMHS swim team competed at the regional swim meet for a chance to move on to the state swim meet that will be held in Austin.

“The meet was stressful but it ended up being a successful meet.” Senior, Jade De La Rosa said.

The swim meet was a big deal for the swimmers competing. All swimmers worked hard and tried their best in order to make it to state.

“I was terrified and nervous. I was a mix of nerves and excitement I would say, but I was able to calm myself.” De La Rosa said.

Swim meets seem to cause a lot of stress for swimmers. In order their heads above water, swimmers have their own tactics to keep them prepared and ready for a meet.

“Listening to music and staying warm helps,” Junior, Matthew Schawe said. “Don’t focus on other swimmers that much, focus on your own swims.”

Despite the nerves, many VMHS students were able to move on and make it to state. Not only did many students move on but VMHS was the only CCISD team who had boys that advanced to state.

“Once we found out that we qualified for state I was overwhelmed with so many emotions,” De La Rosa said. “As soon as I looked up on the board I had a rush of excitement.”

A big congratulations to all of the students who competed and made it to state. Good luck in Austin.
