The VMHS screaming eagle band competed at the UIL marching contest in Calallen on October 19, 2019. At the contests the band competed against many schools and were able to enjoy watching the shows that those schools worked to put together as well.

“There were about 19 schools that were competing” Marcus Silva, Senior said.

Hearing the results seemed to be a very nerve racking experience for the band members considering that this year would give them the opportunity to advance to area so they could further compete in marching contests.

“Whenever we first heard the announcement, I was excited.” Piper Baker, Junior said.

Due to their hard work and dedication, the bands outstanding performance earned them straight ones and gave them the opportunity to advance to area.

“It’s our very first year advancing to area in our programs history,” Silva said.

The band has performed their show multiple times during football games and at previous contest. Every run through of their show is expected to be their best but sometimes it doesn’t work out as planned. However in this case the members of the VMHS band were pleased with themselves and their run through.

“…from where we were at, we were very proud of our performance that night.” Silva said.

The news of their success was a huge relief to all of the band members involved.

“We were all really proud,” Baker Said. “there was so much pressure for us to get the one,”

The VMHS Band will be competing at the Area Marching contest on October 26, 2019 in Weslaco, TX.
